Beauty
ByRecently I went to a talk by Peter Owen Jones called “letters from an Extreme Pilgrim”.
In essence Peter, an Anglican Priest, spent 4 weeks in a hermits cave on the side of Mount Sinai. His heart felt revelations were emotive and profound. He spoke of the solitude and absence of sound which caused him to go deeply within himself. His book is very well worth a read!!
I found myself, reviewing once again, how we are and why.
It seems to me, we see beauty as a comparative thing. We all have our own idea of beauty, then we rate or judge things around us. The most unsettling idea is that we subject ourselves, also, to this rather harsh judgement (particularly so!!) Nature is so beautiful, but each part does not judge another it just augments it.
This is the great issue we face. Because we insistently feel the need to qualify ourselves against those around us, it leads into the cycle of wanting “more”. We want “more” than is sufficient, we want newer and better as if it is part of the “quality of life” that we seek. Many rate their lives as successful when they accrue the wealth and belongings they aspire to.
I know many will say that they dont succumb to this way of thinking, but it is human nature, and is inherent in everyone to want to better their situation. That does not necessarily mean material goods and material gain!
So i asked Peter,” Did you see the beauty in yourself?” he answered “yes” and continued to talk about straining to hear distant noises and catching delicate smells from the settlements many miles away.
It is difficult without the normal things in our lives to spend many hours(let alone weeks) in our own company ,without books, the television or radio. to really delve into the centre of our own thoughts and images. I guess a most scary place to be!!
So what i try to get at is this. If we can see the beauty of the creator or creation in ourselves, we would become completely without need to seek a spiritual grail. The creator,All that is, God, Is the beauty within us. Why would we want for anything outside of us?
We ask for guidance, advice, from our guides and mentors; but we are seeking the beauty of someone else! We should be seeking our own unique beauty and truth. These amazing guides, masters, avatars, can all give signposts and clues as to how they found their Beauty, but ultimately our quest is unique, and our path is unique.
So i struggle to see myself as Beautiful because of all the learned behaviour and ideas of normality that have bombarded me since birth. Constant comparison and judgement, pushes out most hope of simply being as a beautiful individual.
But here it is, because i am becoming that individual. i do not seek to judge myself against others, nor do i feel the need to draw from others their own special light. I do not demand or control. I admire and love those about me for their amazing beauty and soul light. I hope that they will eventually be able to see this light for themselves.
i am that i am, i am become that i am.
Look within again my friends, see your own light for it shines so brightly. Have no concern for what others may believe. or what others may tell you. The truth is simple.
Love yourself, as if you were that beautiful view, or that fantastic beach, that favourite landscape. Dont place buildings and rubbish in this vista. Allow yourself to wander freely without worry or care as you have nothing to hide from. Respect and value the trees, plants and wildlife, the water, sky and earth. Love the ingredients of yourself. move and live in this organic flow, this equilibrium.
If you do this, what more could you wish for? what more could you wish for anyone else? We become one with ourselves.
Maybe real Spiritualism, Religion should be about how we see the light in ourselves and helping others to do the same; without judgement, demand or expectation, with love.
Vanquished then, is hurtful stress on others, our thirst to be “better”, because we are what we always were; PERFECT!! No need for “more” for we have everything!!
Blessings my friends, may your light shine for all to see, and especially for you.
